Here's an uncommon and quite beautiful Pathephone No. 2 disc phonograph that's in pristine original condition. Its “peacock” horn is perhaps the nicest I’ve ever seen, with gradient paint that’s clean and stable and tight seams everywhere.
Unlike Victor and Columbia phonographs, which tracked a record’s groove with a reproducer that moved laterally, from one side of the groove to the other, the large diaphragm Pathe reproducer (like Edison disc and cylinder reproducers) tracked vertically, moving up and down as it converted hill and dale impressions into sound and music.
As you can see in the pictures, the phonograph is gorgeous, with a clean cabinet finish, and an original cabinet decal that’s still colorful.
The back-bracket enamel is original, as are the gold highlights. The brass
ID plate on the side of the side of the cabinet is clean and legible, the brake is working properly, the horn elbow is in excellent condition, with no dings or dents, the motor and governor are working properly, the original Pathe reproducer is working properly, and its sapphire stylus is in good shape.
The horn of course is the star of the show, and its condition is worthy of the phonograph. Beautiful paint, perfectly formed panels, an exquisite example in all respects. There are dings in the collar, but these are hidden beneath the nickel elbow and are not visible unless the phonograph dismantled.
Take a look at the pictures. They tell the story better than I can. No replica or replacement parts. Everything is original, including the turntable felt.
I'll include with the phonograph an early 10” Pathe record, and if you get tired of listening to it, there are other titles available on ebay and elsewhere. If you're not already familiar with how to operate an early disc phonograph, don't worry. I'll provide you with simple, easy to understand set-up instructions, so you'll be able to use it within minutes after you unpack it and put it together.
That's about it. I will carefully prep everything for shipping and pack everything carefully and properly. Overseas bidders, please contact me in advance for a shipping quote and for my confirmation that I can ship it to you. The phonograph will be expensive to ship, as it will need to go out in two large packages (phonograph in one package; horn in the other). Auction participants with no prior feedback history, or with hidden feedback, should contact me before placing a bid. Buyer prepays and includes shipping.
