    Description

100% GENUINE and entirely COMPLETE Pattern 1937 Kaigunto Katana Imperial Japanese Navy officer's sword
    The
    condition is exemplary
    the
    quality and completeness
are a thing of wonder that will
enhance any WW2 sword collector's horde
EVERY part is present, there are
    NO missing pieces
. Every part bears the same assembly number
The sword is tightly fitted with
    ZERO wobble or any movement
    = A collector's DREAM ๐Ÿ˜
The pommel of this sword bears a
    Solid Silver "Mon"
    (Samurai Family heraldic crest)
    EXCLUSIVELY WORN by
    the ancient Matsui Samurai clan
This proves that this sword was carried by a proven SAMURAI Clan Descendant. One that was able to
    PROVE to the Japanese Navy
    that he was
    a direct descendant
of the old & important MATSUI Samurai Clan. (This descent-PROOF was NEEDED before permission could be granted to
GRIND-OFF some of the Emperor's Personal emblems
(The flowers and leaves that decorate the standard Shingunto sword fittings) in order to
    mount the
    MATSUI Samurai Clan
    Mon
    on the sword's pommel
    During the Muromachi period,
the Matsui clan served as the Shogun's retainer of Ashikaga Shogun family
    .
    Many Shingunto & Kaigunto swords
had their Mon defaced or REMOVED
when surrendered after the end of WW2. That was
    done to prevent dishonour
to the samurai family that they represented.
Because the Japanese warrior's Bushido code
    regards SURRENDER as deeply SHAMEFUL
    ๐Ÿ™
At the time of surrender, when
    the Mon was frequently removed
    by the officer surrendering it,
often the Tassel and Sarute were also lost
, so this sword is especially "COMPLETE" and has the DESIREABLE
    "Clasping Hands" Sarute
    (Tassel-loop) OR "
    Sature
", if sold by a lying retarded "Samurai Monkey" fraudster
Japanese officers had to BUY THEIRย OWN SWORDS with money from their own pockets.
Having a custom-made hand-forged "traditional" Samurai sword type blade would have
vastly increased the cost of this sword
    to its original owner
    He also opted for the
    expensive & fragile "Samenuri" Saya
(Sting Ray skin-covered scabbard) which remains in excellent condition. As WW2 progressed the Sting Ray skin use gave-way to black lacquer, then leather covered wood
This traditionally made GENDAITO blade was
    hand-forged from Sand-Iron
("Tamahagane") BLADE was clearly a CUSTOM ORDER sword for a wealthy or important I.J.N. officer
MOST WW2 era Imperial Japanese Navy swords ("Kaigunto") only have mere Stainless Steel blades ("Anchor-in-Circle" stamp)
This blade was hand-made, at a time when the very Tamahagane needed to forge it,
was very scarce and severely RATIONED
    Only
    the BEST registered Kaji
    (Sword craftsman)
    received a Tamahagane ration
during WW2 usually that was ONLY enough to produce 2 Katana per year.
Once that ration was expended, the Kaji had to utilise Western Style (NON TRADITIONAL) Steel (Found "Showa" or "Seki" stamped)
    Being a
    REAL traditionally-made Japanese sword
? this tang bears NO stamps, only the skillfully-cut signature of a highly trained and skilled Kaji (sword maker) One who had
    mastered BOTH hammer & chisel
! (No nasty "chippy triangle" signature here!)
The blade shows clearly that it is hand-forged. The Hada (Forging grain pattern) is clearly seen.
    There are many "Ware"
    (forging welds that are
BLACK and are a little "open"
    )
    4 or 5 out of 10,000+ welds
    ,
just like most OLD TIME Samurai blades
    had when they were made.
    These Ware
did not stop the sword's maker proudly signing his finished work
, for what was likely a very important customer. Nor did the presence of these Ware put-off the WW2 officer who would have paid a LOT of $$$ to buy this GENDAITO Blade BECAUSE it WAS HAND-FORGED and as-such showed a few ware (
    Ware are NOT CRACKS
as some imbecile female buyer recently opined)
    ๐Ÿ™
Signature reads "Nyudo KANETADA Kore Wo Kitae" (Nyudo Kanetada
    CAREFULLY FORGED
this) rather than the mere & usual "Saku" or "made this"
It is clearly a match for other genuine signatures of this well-known WW2 era sword-maker
    HERE is good example....

    Japanese
    NAVY Katana are RARE
, basically because Imperial Japanese Navy ships
    DID NOT SURRENDER
    IJN Kaigunto swords are
scarcer than Army Shingunto by a factor of *at least* 25:1
Many surviving Gunto swords? (Of both Army & Navy types) are these days found in
    RUBBISH CONDITION
    ๐Ÿ™
    MOST Navy Kaigunto have
    revolting
    (To ME anyway)
    Stainless Steel blades
    FEW retain their
    original Mon
IF they ever HAD one? or their scarce & highly collectable Officer's Rank TASSEL
ALL I.J.N. rank tassels were PLAIN BROWN
like this one. Brown being worn by ALL commissioned ranks from
Lieutenant all the way to ADMIRAL
Sadly I do not know who owned this
    VERY VERY NICE Kaigunto sword
in WW2, but he was clearly from a
    GOOD SAMURAI FAMILY
    He spent a
    CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT of $$$
on his personal sword, and clearly CARED FOR IT WELL
I would speculate (guess) that he would likely have been a SENIOR OFFICER
Blade has NO bends NO cracks NO Rust NO pitting NO "Fatal Flaws"
    There ARE some
    reasonably prominent WARE
that extend along the Shinogi-Ji (above the ridge-line) and right into the Mune of the Kissaki
    "WARE" are NOT "cracks"
(Cracks are known as "Hagire") Ware usually occur when 1 in many many 1000's of "Layered Folds" has failed, they do not usually affect the working of a hand forged sword. They
CERTAINLY DID NOT prevent the maker of this blade proudly signing it,
    OR
the purchase of this sword by a member of a Samurai family
    with the intention of
    carrying it OFF TO WAR
    and proudly
    BEARING his SAMURAI FAMILY MON
"Ware" are NOT "Fatal flaws" they exist in many (MOST!) antique Japanese Samurai-era swords that are traditionally made (IE "Layered & Folded") and are a RRSULT of having been HAND-FORGED (Laboriously) from Tamahagane (Sand-Iron rendered-down from Iron sands in the MANNER of old Samurai sword construction techniques)
    This sword has
NO RESERVE it is here to be SOLD
    to the highest bidder
A better example would likely cost you 00-,000 ๐Ÿ™
