This listing includes a Yashica 8-U-Matic Zoom 8mm roll film movie camera with the correct battery pack, grip, and genuine Yashica take up reel only.
After tearing down the camera to remove and replace the old lubricants, a set of fresh AA batteries were installed into the battery pack for testing.
The only issue is its film transport mechanism, or lack thereof.
As I understand it, the reciprocating claw which pulls the film forward one frame at a time is missing the hook that pulls the frame forward; I could be wrong.
However, no matter what I tried, the test roll of film refused to move through the gate. I suppose that the camera could be reassembled incorrectly or the micromotor may be failing, but I believe neither to be the issue. The camera is otherwise fully functional including the micromotor and the light meter.
All three frame rates worked.
I could not determine if the automatic exposure mode was responsive, but I did not see any changes to the aperture while looking down the lens with bright light while the shutter was released.
The view through the lens is nice and clear with no fungus, dusts, or haze. The exterior is not without fault; its condition suggests that this camera has seen some use, but nothing excessive.
There are areas of chipped and/or scuffing on the grey coating, primarily along the bottom and the top edges.
The top forward corners show the most amount of wear.
The front beauty plate is in good shape with no damage noted, but there is a small amount of adhesion loss on the bottom right corner.
There are also some light scuffing and scratches distributed along the other parts of the exterior, but nothing distracting.
Most of the grime was removed from the surface prior to listing.
There is a small deformation of the filter threads, most likely from a drop at some point in the past.
The detachable grip is useful only for holding the camera since the shutter release mechanism was removed at some point in the past.
The light meter cover is also missing.
Since the transport has malfunctioned, this item is offered for parts, repair, or display only with no returns.
